How to prevent memory loss - Brain Exercise and Hindu culture

Experts suggest that specific brain exercises can prevent memory loss and other brain related diseases.
an excellent book "Keep your brain alive" by Dr. Lawrence Katz, Ph.D gives practical advice on using various faculties of body and brain to keep bran active .
A major emphasis is on creating new "connections"  between neurons by social and human interactions which takes us away from set routines.
They advice to create additional "brain cell activity" using various exercises that which can help generate chemicals and hormones necessary to keep brain cells healthy and may even generate new cells.

We find that our ancient ways of living and praying automatically involves many of these activites in our day to day life.

suggestion : Increased Social interactions

we lived in a joint family where new members are constantly being added and the extended family gets rather large. this automatically created huge number of interaction with lots and lots of people.

Suggestion : Breaking from routine

living in a joint family also means that there are always kids in the house. Adults tend to "set in routine0" and may not provide much variation to brain cells. children are always learning and trying new things. close interaction with children ensures that life is never a "set routine"

Suggestion : Use multiple faculties

They suggest that reading a book aloud will make a larger part of brains to work compared to simple reading because brain will have to do additional control work for speaking. this activity will create additional connections and associations in brain as against simple reading.

We read , and recite  thousands of shlokas / Mantras . this ensures that we associate reading with memorizing and also use extra brain cells to "pronounce " right words .  the complex structure of vedic mantras also ensures that brain cells work harder at deciphering and memorizing the mantras.
